Welcome once again, our international Guest Instructor – Govinda Kai. Just returning from a retreat in Italy and teaching in Budapest, Hungary, Govinda travels the world teaching.

Join Govinda for this rare opportunity to deepen your yoga practice in this week long intensive at Good Vibrations Yoga.  All levels of practice are welcome – afternoon sessions on philosophy require no previous experience with ashtanga yoga.  Space is limited for asana classes so early registration is suggested.

Govinda Kai brings a unique perspective to his teaching.  He has been fortunate to have studied with some of the most renowned spiritual teachers of this age, including Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, Swami Muktananda and Sogyal Rimpoche.  With over thirty years of experience Govinda challenges students not just to improve their physical practice, but, to explore the possibilities of living a truly meaningful life.

Govinda has been to Mysore, India more than 20 times and practiced almost exclusively with Guruji from 1995 to 2007.  He was certified to teach ashtanga yoga by Guruji, an honor bestowed on fewer than fifty individuals worldwide.

Mysore style Ashtanga yoga

Mysore style practice is the traditional method of practicing Ashtanga yoga.  Each student practices at their own pace under the guidance of a teacher. The Mysore system allows students to develop a personal practice that is authentic to their physical individuality while following the Ashtanga tradition.  Students will receive one on one instruction from Govinda to develop his/her individual practice.

Evening sessions will further explore pranayama, chanting, meditation and yoga philosophy.  In these sessions students will also have additional opportunity to ask Govinda questions regarding their personal practices.

Led Ashtanga Primary Series

The Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga tradition as taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, combines a precise system of breathe, movement and focus point to create a dynamic and profoundly meditative style of practice.  The Primary Series, or yoga chikitsa, is designed to promote therapeutic healing of the body.  Govinda studied this method and practiced directly with Pattabhi Jois, or Guruji, for many years.  In his teaching, Govinda conveys his passion and knowledge of the practice to the student.  Govinda will lead the class in the traditional Sanskrit count.

Evening & Afternoon sessions will further explore pranayama, chanting, meditation and yoga philosophy. In these sessions students will also have additional opportunity to ask Govinda questions about their practice.
